Stand-up comedian and digital content creator Aishwarya Mohanraj has sparked a wide conversation online after candidly revealing that she lost 20 kg in six months with the help of Mounjaro, a prescription GLP-1 medication used for diabetes management and weight control under medical supervision.
In a recent YouTube video, the 31-year-old detailed her health challenges, the treatment path she followed, and the physical and emotional toll of her weight fluctuations.
Why Did Aishwarya Mohanraj Gain Weight?
Aishwarya shared that in early 2021, she weighed approximately 51 kg. Within six months, her weight increased to nearly 70 kg. She was later diagnosed with PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) and hypothyroidism — both conditions known to affect metabolism and weight regulation. She also noted that these conditions run in her family.
Initially, she was prescribed thyroid medication and birth control pills but discontinued them due to mood-related side effects. After further evaluation, doctors linked her PCOD to insulin resistance and prescribed metformin.
During the same period, she was diagnosed with clinical depression, which compounded her struggles. She described feeling deeply insecure about her appearance and said her double chin became a major trigger for self-doubt, leading her to withdraw from social media for a time.
Why Diet And Exercise Were Not Enough
At the beginning of 2025, Aishwarya decided to focus intensively on weight management. She hired a trainer and nutritionist, increased protein intake, reduced junk food, and maintained a structured workout routine.
While her body measurements improved, the scale did not reflect significant weight loss. Soon after, she developed plantar fasciitis — a painful inflammatory condition affecting the foot — and was diagnosed with elevated uric acid levels. Medical advice required her to pause exercising, interrupting her progress.
How Mounjaro Helped Her Lose 20 Kg
In May last year, under medical supervision, Aishwarya began weekly Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) injections.
She reported losing around 1 kg in the first week and approximately 4 kg in the first month. Over six months, her weight dropped from 74 kg to 52 kg — a total reduction of 20 kg.
However, she also spoke openly about the side effects and financial burden. She experienced significant nausea during the initial month and noticeable hair loss. She additionally revealed that the medication costs approximately Rs 40,000 per injection.
After six months, she reduced the dosage and indicated plans to discontinue it gradually under medical guidance.
Addressing The Stigma Around Weight-Loss Medication
Aishwarya emphasised that using medically prescribed weight-loss injections should not be viewed as “cheating” or morally inferior to traditional methods.
“Just because something is easy doesn’t mean it’s wrong,” she stated, urging people to avoid judging others’ health choices. She repeatedly stressed the importance of consulting qualified doctors before considering such treatment.
Her transparency has been widely appreciated online, particularly for opening up discussions around PCOD, mental health, body image, and the realities of medically assisted weight loss.
What Is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro (generic name: Tirzepatide) is a prescription medication primarily approved for treating type 2 diabetes. It functions as both a GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist, influencing insulin production, appetite regulation, and blood sugar levels.
It is not an over-the-counter weight-loss product and requires medical screening, monitoring, and supervision.
