Indian Creators Debut at Tokyo Fashion Week 2026

Nidhi Bhanushali, Kashish Ratnani, and Simran Balar Jain marked a historic moment for Indian fashion by representing the country at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2026.

This debut signals a significant shift, with Indian digital creators stepping onto one of Asia’s most influential fashion platforms, bringing with them narratives rooted in craftsmanship, culture, and contemporary styling.

A Milestone for Indian Representation

For the first time in the event’s history, Indian content creators were part of Tokyo’s premier fashion week, highlighting the growing global relevance of India’s fashion identity. Their presence underscores how storytelling through fashion is no longer confined to designers alone, but is increasingly shaped by creators who bridge culture and audience.

Held from March 16 to 21, the Autumn/Winter 2026 edition featured 33 brands across official and partner showcases, reinforcing Tokyo’s position as a hub where tradition meets innovation.

Showcasing Global and Local Synergy

The trio attended runway presentations from a diverse lineup of brands, including JANE, ALLFORYOU, Ayaka Oshita, CHARINYEH, N O N A M E, S A L I M, TANG TSUNG CHIEN, WooleeX, and Zero Waste Fashion Story Wear.

This season also marked the latter half of Tokyo Fashion Week’s 20th anniversary, celebrated under the theme “Be The Seam Of The World,” emphasising cross-cultural exchange and creative convergence.

Individual Style Narratives

Nidhi Bhanushali spotlighted Indian heritage with a contemporary twist, wearing a saree from the women-led label Suta. Styled over a structured shirt and flared trousers, the look reimagined the saree as a versatile, future-facing garment.

Kashish Ratnani embraced couture craftsmanship in an intricately embroidered ensemble by KALKI Fashion, featuring an ivory skirt, structured blouse, and a dramatic cape — a silhouette that highlighted the precision and richness of Indian design.

Simran Balar Jain brought a deeply personal and sustainable perspective, choosing an Indo-Western outfit by Aggunj that she had previously worn for a special occasion. Her look emphasised longevity, emotional value, and the evolving narrative of conscious fashion.
