Shweta Tripathi expands her career into production with a focus on women-led and queer stories

After earning acclaim for her performance in Mirzapur, Shweta Tripathi is expanding her creative footprint. The actor has officially stepped into film production, choosing to focus on women-led and queer narratives — a direction she describes as deeply personal.

First Queer Film as Producer

Shweta recently announced her first film as a producer, titled Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan. The project will feature Tilottama Shome in a key role and is expected to begin production this year.

In addition to the film, Shweta has also backed the queer stage play Cock, which received a strong response from audiences for its nuanced storytelling.

‘This Feels Like the Path I Want to Be On’

Speaking to The Times of India, Shweta explained why she is consciously choosing stories centered on women and queer experiences.

She described the move as personal, emphasizing that meaningful change requires active participation. According to her, while stories about women and queer lives have always existed, they have not consistently been given the visibility or respect they deserve.

Shweta shared that having the privilege to create content comes with responsibility. She aims to support narratives that feel authentic, layered, and relatable rather than dramatic for effect. Her approach to storytelling focuses on human complexity, ensuring characters are portrayed with honesty rather than stereotypes.

She stated that backing women-led subjects and supporting queer voices aligns with the larger purpose she wants her career to reflect.

What’s Next for Shweta Tripathi?

On the acting front, Shweta will reprise her role in Mirzapur: The Movie, the cinematic extension of the popular series. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 4.

The ensemble cast includes Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Sheeba Chadha, and Ali Fazal, among others.

With her transition into production, Shweta Tripathi signals a strategic shift — one that blends creative ambition with social awareness. As she balances acting and producing, her upcoming projects are likely to reflect this evolving vision.
